Strongwall.ai provides application-level encryption on top of SSL for our core chat functionality.
Most of the time, this is unnecessary. However, there are circumstances in which it benefits users.
- Employers or governments have attempted to mandate the use of a particular SSL root certificate to facilitate the monitoring of internet traffic.
- On a shared computer or one not owned by you, there may be monitoring software that bypasses SSL entirely.
An encryption layer on top of SSL provides an enhanced level of privacy for those users.
We also encrypt the conversations that are stored in your browser. Most browsers do not encrypt data at rest, meaning that without application-level encryption, as we provide, anyone with access to a shared local account could see your browser history and locally stored data.
This is particularly important because Strongwall does not have a copy of your conversation history – your conversations exist only in your browser, so you need a secure way to store them locally.
All of this is on top of the security provided by things like Microsoft BitLocker or macOS FileVault. We recommend you follow good security practices, such as using your own accounts on your local devices, using strong passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and enabling full disk encryption. Combining these with Strongwall’s secure, private AI gives you confidence that your conversations are accessible only to you.
